Zato publishes the 2024 Sustainability Report
Once again this year, we have chosen to report on our commitment to sustainability through a voluntarily drafted report.
We do this to ensure maximum transparency regarding a journey that has always been part of our DNA: contributing to the ecological transition and enabling a truly circular economy.
Our work – at the crossroads between technological innovation, metal recycling, and social responsibility – requires us to concretely integrate ESG criteria into the way we think, design, and produce.
It is a duty towards the future, people, and the planet.
In 2024, we reorganised our sustainability strategy around the three ESG dimensions – Environment, Social, and Governance – identifying the key topics on which to focus concrete actions and investments.
Environment
Climate change and energy
- We use 100% renewable energy and, in 2023, we achieved zero Scope 2 emissions.
- We reduced Scope 3 emissions by 31% compared to 2022.
- We are improving the reporting of indirect impacts along the value chain.
Resource use and circular economy
- We promote the use of recycled steel in our machinery (target: 50% by 2025).
- We reduced plastic use in packaging by 50% and increased the use of recycled wood.
- In 2023, we generated 20% less waste compared to 2022.
Social
Health and safety
- We invest in prevention and technologies for safer workplaces, and we have started the process to obtain ISO 45001 certification.
Secure employment, well-being, and engagement
- We strengthened the corporate welfare platform and updated our internal well-being policy.
- We actively involve our people in continuous improvement processes.
Training and skills development
- We offer technical and managerial training programmes, both in-person and online.
- We encourage the development of soft skills and widespread leadership.
Relationship with the community
- In 2023, we donated a mobile kitchen to the Civil Protection and support local sports associations and community initiatives, with €45,500 in charitable contributions.
Governance
Internal controls and risk management

- We apply organisational models based on transparency and accountability.
Corporate culture and industry innovation
