Extract every gram of value from your scrap with the Zato Blue Devil + Blue Sorter duo

Zato is redefining how recyclers extract value from mixed metal processing. By combining the Blue Devil twin-shaft industrial shredder with a Blue Sorter metal separation line, Zato delivers a complete process engineered to capture every gram of potential profit. This powerful duo turns heterogeneous input into a clean, high-yield output stream, ready for steel mills and non-ferrous markets.

Blue Devil: High-torque pre-shredding for mixed metal scrap

The Blue Devil is a twin-shaft shredder engineered for the materials that bring conventional equipment to a halt: light mixed ferrous and non-ferrous scrap, as well as bulky industrial scrap. Its counter-rotating shafts generate the high torques required to reduce this material into a homogeneous fraction that is denser, easier to handle and ready for downstream processing.

On a typical mixed metal input, roughly 70/75% exits as a clean, predominantly ferrous fraction that is sold to steel mills and foundries priceas a premium scrap thanks to its density and purity. The remaining part is where the Zato metal separation line makes the difference!

Blue Sorter scrap cleaning plant: Recovering hidden value

The Blue Sorter separation line is the technological evolution that completes the Blue Devil process. At its core is a custom-engineered hybrid magnetic drum that combines neodymium and ferrite to optimise both the depth and intensity of the magnetic flux. The configuration is calibrated to the exact distance at which the vibrating feeder presents the scrap, ensuring a superior capture rate even on the most challenging shaped ferrous pieces.

Eddy current separator: Precision recovery of non-ferrous metals

Once the ferrous content is removed, the recovery process focuses on the residual stream:

≈3 to 5% of the total infeed is represented by high-value non-ferrous metals, including aluminium, copper and stainless steel.

That amount of hidden precious metal is the fraction that makes the difference. It is a high-value mix that operators can sell on a recurring basis, generating a steady additional monthly revenue stream that would otherwise be lost to the waste flow.

To maximise the recovery of that valuable fraction, the line can be enhanced with an eddy current separator (ECS) and a further picking station. The ECS exploits electromagnetic induction to generate eddy currents within non-ferrous metals: a rapidly changing magnetic field produces repulsive forces that physically project metals such as aluminium, copper and brass away from the inert waste stream, allowing for clean recovery and valorisation.

Zato’s modular system is built around yield and profitability

The combination of Blue Devil and metal separation line is designed as a modular, scalable system. Plant managers and procurement engineers can size the configuration on the specific throughput targets, material mix and spatial constraints of each yard, with a clear focus on the metric that matters most in modern recycling:

The purity, and therefore the price, of every output fraction!
