The active role of the circular economy
On April 22, Earth Day is celebrated all over the planet.
This year’s theme will is “invest in your planet” with a focus on all of the positive actions that individuals and companies can implement to reduce and even reverse the effects of climate change and also to recognise and support sustainability within the work place. The goal of becoming a truly circular economy is increasing in significance every day while the recycling industry’s important contributions towards achieving these goals become even more significant.
At Zato every day is Earth Day. Every employee in our organisation and especially the engineers focus their energies towards studying and implementing processes and technologies to make the process of scrap metal recycling as sustainable as it can possibly be. For more than 20 years, Zato recycling solutions has been providing its partners and customers with systems and equipment that contribute to limiting the environmental impact derived from the processes of producing new steel from recycled sources.
Towards a cleaner world
The fact is that new metals created from recycled ferrous or nonferrous scrap reduces CO2 emissions by 58% compared to manufacturing steel from iron ore. For every ton of steel manufactured from recycled steel 740 KG of coal is saved. In the case of copper and aluminium, the balance is even more overwhelming: the use of scrap allows a reduction of 65% and 82% respectively in CO2 emissions compared to process of producing the metal from copper and aluminium ore. Are we seeing the start of a tipping point where the interests and motivations of politicians, consumers and manufacturers align?
